Deposition & Forest Growth - WSL highlights the results of Swiss led ICP Forests study

Under the title of Too much nitrogen slows forest growth in Europe, the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL published an appealing press release of the study "Nitrogen deposition is the most important environmental driver of growth of pure, even-aged and managed European forests“ by Etzold et al. (2020) at their website.

The study published just recently in Forest Ecology and Management was initiated and led by ICP Forests colleagues of the WSL. Using data from 1995 to 2010 and 442 ICP Forests plots, they revealed an average tipping point of 30 kg N ha-1 yr-1 of atmospheric deposition at which forest growth starts to be inhibited.
