Hello to everybody
I am Dr. Celal TAŞDEMİR from Turkey.I am the National Expert of Turkey of Crown Condition. I have just joined this group; so I am very happy.
Greetings to evreybody
your problem is not trivial. In most cases the "name" of the class is interpreted as a metric value in order to get a mean value as a description. To calculate metric means from categorical variables is never correct in a methematical sense but is useful for a description if the classes are not too large. In case of ICP Forests usually you have 5% classes and, hence, a mean value is not as influenced by border effects as it would be in your case (wide ranges of the classes). I would recommend to stick on the "share of trees which are of at least 25% defoliation" (the definition of 'damaged' trees) or "share of trees with defoliation score of 50% or more" instead of calculating mean values. I hope this helps a little?
I have 0(health) <25 25-<50 50-<75 75-99 and 100(dead)
defoliation category. how cai i mean defoliation for a plot and plots(sample).

Dear Sitki, I don't understand your comment yet. Did you post it in the correct forum? Which parameter do you mean? Best regards, Volker
